Gispen 3-Seater Sofa, Dutch Originals

A three-seater sofa after an original design by Willem Hendrik Gispen (1890–1981), one of the pioneers of Dutch modernism and tubular steel furniture. Produced by Dutch Originals — B.V. Gebroeders van der Stroom in Asperen, the Netherlands, furniture makers since 1791 — under licence from Gispen International, as confirmed by the original label underneath.

Deep, generous seat and back cushions in soft black leather sit within a crisp, square-armed body, framed by a high-gloss chrome tubular steel frame that wraps around each armrest and curves down into the characteristic looped Gispen legs. A strong piece of Bauhaus-inspired Dutch design, both architectural and very comfortable.

In good condition. The leather on the seat and back cushions has softened with use and shows natural creasing and a lived-in patina, with a few light surface marks. The chrome frame is bright and in very good condition. The black fabric underneath has a small scuff line, not visible in use. Structurally solid and stable.
