The interior is decorated with large abstract red spots — reminiscent of poppies — set against a deep, near-black ground. The walls and scalloped wavy rim are finished in a rich chocolate brown glaze with a lightly textured surface that catches the light. The exterior is glazed in the same dark brown.
The piece has a real painterly energy to it, and the contrast between the matte-edged red patches and the glossy dark ground is striking up close. A generous size makes it useful as a desk or entry tray.
