Vintage Design Lounge Chair, Brown Leather & Brushed Steel

A vintage design lounge chair from the 1970s, with a low, generous seat and a buttoned backrest upholstered in rich chestnut-brown leather. The upholstered body sits on a brushed steel sled base with a clean, continuous outline, giving the piece a light, floating silhouette. Provenance

Underneath the seat, the chair still carries its original numbered metal inventory plate, marked "CCE-BX 77.08435". CCE is the abbreviation of the Commission des Communautés Européennes — the Commission of the European Communities, today's European Commission — and BX stands for Brussels. The plate indicates that this chair was part of the Commission's furniture inventory in Brussels, where it would have furnished the offices or meeting spaces of the European institutions. The number "77" most likely refers to the year of registration, 1977. A rare piece of Brussels' European history, with a traceable institutional past.

Condition

The leather shows a beautiful, lived-in patina with clear signs of age: a fine crackled texture throughout, and lighter worn and flaking patches on the seat cushion, especially along its front edge. One front corner of the seat cushion is worn through, with a small frayed area, and there are a few small marks on the side and back panels. The steel base has light scuffs from use. The chair is structurally sound and stable.
