The "Cleopatra" daybed, designed by Dick Cordemeijer for Auping in 1954 and produced in Deventer, the Netherlands. An icon of Dutch post-war design, it combines a black enamelled steel frame on slender tapered legs with a woven steel spring mesh base — still bearing the Auping logo — and two sculptural solid teak end rolls that give the piece its elegant, boat-like profile. Used with a mattress or cushion, it works as a daybed, a guest bed or a low sofa in a living room, studio or bedroom. The original "auping – deventer – made in holland" label is still attached to the frame.
Sold without mattress. In good vintage condition, with signs of age and use: the teak end rolls show scratches, small dents and a few small chips on their edges and end grain. The black frame and legs have light scuffs and a few small paint chips, and the Auping label is slightly torn at one corner. The spring mesh base is intact and the structure is solid and stable.
